Yumi is a practicing visual artist based in Melbourne, Australia, with Japanese cultural background. Her body of work ranges from painting and drawing to printmaking and textile arts, and she studied art at NCAT (Northern College of the Arts and Technology) and RMIT University in Melbourne. After many years of commuting in the infamously crowded “canned sardines” trains of Tokyo, she migrated to Australia and its lush scenery finally woke her inner desire to create. She started with textile arts and her quilt works have been exhibited and won awards in the largest quilt showcase in Melbourne. Now she enjoys vigorously exploring the world of urban sketching, natural history painting and visually interpreting Australian landscape.
